On April 27th, Messiah Lutheran in Prince Albert, hosted the 80th Anniversary Celebration of the Evangelical Lutheran Broadcast.

Following a short business meeting a wonderful Service of Celebration was held in the Sanctuary.  Musical numbers included the Choir from Parkside, Shalom musical group from Shellbrook and Saskatoon musician Wes Froese.  Historical background and reminiscing was presented by current Chairperson Pastor Rick Johnson, past Chair Morris Anderson and longtime friend of the Broadcast Pastor Dan Haugen.

Messiah and its members have been an integral part of this long history and attending were Gladys Ronning, Vic Johnson and Pearl Berg who throughout the early years shared in the musical part of many broadcasts which were mostly recorded live in the CKBI studio.  May Dragseth who served as treasurer for the Broadcast for many years was also in attendance and remembered many lean times when the Board had to step up to more of a providing role as well as serving.  The current Board includes Pastor Rick Johnson, Myrtle Giles, Marion Hopkins, Janet Walters, Donna Deobald, Jennifer Rust, Bev Skotheim, Twylla Wall, Deacon Eldon Danielson and Dave Scheirer.

Also attending were the sons of  founder, Pastor A.M. Vinge  – Joel and Albert.  The radio pastor for Easter Sunday and the Anniversary Sunday was Pastor Mark Vinge of New Hope, Minnesota.  He is Pastor A.M. Vinge’s grandson.

Following the service a potluck supper and fellowship was enjoyed by all.

The Broadcast has an 80-year history and owes a great amount of gratitude to all the pastors who participate, and to the board members who have believed in this mission. It is especially through the gifts and prayers of listeners  and God’s abundant grace that the Broadcast continues to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ that Christians may be fed and nourished, the indifferent may be stirred and awakened, and the lost may be won for Jesus Christ.  We are so grateful for many supporters and pastors who continue to make this mission possible.
